Vision and mission of the farm

Iyannar wants to insure a substantial food supply to Auroville, maintaining a stable income and profit.

Current operations

Brihaspati farm lies beyond the village of Edyanchiavadi, to the west of Auroville on the edge of the Green Belt. The area occupied by the farm is a former cashew tope. The soil varies a great deal, from relatively fertile loams around a nearby lake, to gravel in gullies. The main crops currently grown on the farm are bananas, papaya, cucumber, vegetables, spinach, lady's fingers, gourds, lemon, and cashew. The farm also has a sizeable dairy comprising 15 cows with the milk being directly supplied to the Solar Kitchen. Electricity is used to pump water. Sprinklers are used for irrigation.

Plans in the upcoming years

Brihaspati is working towards increase the acreage for vegetable cultivation and improving dairy farming practices.
