Vision and mission of the farm
Murthy's objective of Ayarpadi Farm is: “To ensure basic income and
profit, through a substantial and consistent food supply to Auroville”.
Current operations
Ayarpadi is located in the international zone of Auroville behind Bharat
Nivas, along the road towards Kottakarai. The soil is a mixture of clay and
sand, and of medium quality in terms of fertility. The farmhouse is on solar energy
with a submersible pump, and a drip irrigation system. The farm is one of the main milk suppliers
for Auroville with a sizeable herd of cows. Apart from the steward and his
family, there are 6 permanent workers on the farm.
Plans in the upcoming years
Murthy needs help in terms of financial investment to bring two more acres of land under irrigated rice cultivation, with a view towards Auroville being self-sufficient in its need for rice.
