Aurogreen Farm

Aurogreen is one of the oldest Auroville farms. It lies in the Green Belt, on the northeast side of the city. The farm was started it in 1975 by Charlie and is now being managed by Charlie and Shanmugam. It covers about 30 acres of which 1.5 acres are being cultivated with irrigation.
Aurogreen grows citrus fruits, papaya, cow fodder and vegetables on the irrigated land. Also has large orchards of non-irrigated cashew, jackfruit, chikkoo, mango and tamarind under dry land conditions, plus some forest land, with timber trees inter-planted around the farm and in a number of separate plots. The farm uses grid electricity for the main well pump and two solar panel booster pump sets for drip and micro sprinkler system on the irrigated plots.

Additionally, there is a small dairy of 5 animals which is growing. The dairy products, milk and varieties of cheese are supplied to Foodlink and Pour Tous to be served to Auroville community. Some of the milk is sold to green belt residents in its immediate surrounding.
